DIY Hanukkah Pom Pom Garland
Blog post updated from November 28, 2018.
No holiday would be complete without a seasonal garland to match, so we whipped up this special mini pom pom Hanukkah garland in a mix of traditional and not-so-traditional Hanukkah colors. The pom poms featured in this tutorial are speckled, however you can of course make poms in any pattern you please!
The design for this pom pom garland was inspired by those found at nearly every market in Mexico. Change up the colors in this DIY to suit any special occasion or home decoration!
YOU’LL NEED:
- Omegacryl* in an assortment of festive colors – we used: Navy Blue, Water Blue, Sky Blue, Turquoise, White & Neon Yellow
- Loome tool*
- 1.5″ pom pom trim guide*
- Plastic yarn needle*
- Embroidery floss*
- Sharp scissors
- Worsted weight acrylic yarn in white
- Tape measure
*Included in our Pom Pom & Tassel DIY Starter Kit!
STEP 1: Make 18 small speckled pom poms or as many as you like using the narrow side of your Loome and a 1.5″ trim guide. (Speckled pom pom steps can be found here!) Per the speckled pom pom pattern, wrap each base layer 20 revolutions with a total of four base layers and a handful of speckles wrapped between each layer.
STEP 2: String finished pom poms onto a 6′ piece of worsted weight yarn.
STEP 3: Follow step 1 of our tassel tutorial, wrapping the yarn around the wide side of the Loome tool 80 revolutions. Tie the top of the tassel with the end of the garland string. Repeat with another tassel on the other end.
STEP 4: Tie a double knot to secure the tassel, trim open the tassel and the excess garland tail, then push the neighboring pom pom down to rest on the top of the tassel and cover the knot.
STEP 5: Jazz up your Hanukkah party with your adorable new garland!
