Beginner Crochet Project: Striped Crochet Bookmark

Crochet can be quite an intimidating new craft to undertake, and thus this beginner crochet project: striped crochet bookmark was born!
I was extremely intimidated to learn crochet when I set out just over a year ago. My first attempts were embarrassing, to say the least, but when I finally got the hang of it, crocheting totally clicked and has felt so natural and easy ever since!

I struggled to find truly helpful resources to start me on my own crochet journey. (Though a big shoutout is due to Katie Jones whose granny square blanket tutorial I’ve watched no fewer than 10 times!)

Beginner Crochet Project: Striped Crochet Bookmark

When it came time to think through how we could successfully teach all of you, our wonderful CommuniTEA, how to crochet, I was determined to create a solution that would help you start your journey at the very beginning and get you through all the basic crochet knowhow smoothly and swiftly.

In addition to our newly updated library of Crochet tutorials (created by our wonderful friend Stitch’d by India Yasmein!), we’ve got you covered with this Striped Crochet Bookmark Tutorial!

Why a striped bookmark, you ask? Because it incorporates all the beginner’s skills we hope to impart upon you while being a small enough project for you to actually finish (no ambitious unfinished projects here!), which will leave you feeling proud of and empowered by your new skills!

AND you can top it off with a sweet tassel, if you already have that skill under your belt. We guarantee you’ll leave this project feeling like the fiber crafting champion of the world!

With this project you’ll learn:

• How to hold your yarn & hook
• How to chain
• How to single crochet (abbreviated: sc)
• How to turn your stitches
• How to change colors
• How to add a single crochet border
• BONUS: how to add a tassel dangle! (Tassel instructions here)

Supply list:

• Omegacryl* or yarn of choice in multiple colors (yarn should all be the same weight)
• Crochet hook in size corresponding with yarn label (5mm hook* for Omegacryl)
• Scissors*
• Yarn needle*
• Stitch marker* (optional)
