MAKING THE POM POMS

You can make your clover and accent pom poms as small or as large as you like!

The accent pom poms in this tutorial are 1.75″ patterned pom poms (180 revolutions on your Loome tool) made using Favorito yarn in Naranja, Amarillo, and Blanco Antiguo.

The clover pom poms in this tutorial are 1.5″ solid pom poms (150 revolutions on your Loome tool) made using Favorito yarn in Botella, Verde Bandera, and Verde Perico. You’ll need four solid pom poms per clover.

Pro Tip: If you’re making a lot of pom poms for a project, start by making all of your pom pom ‘pancakes’ at once (steps 1-4), saving all of your trimming for the end. This makes the process go a lot faster!

Trim all of your pom pom pancakes using the corresponding pom pom trim guides— 1.75″ guide for the accent pom poms, and 1.5″ guide for the clover pom poms.

Crochet Shamrock Clover Pom Poms

MAKE THE STEM – TWO WAYS

You’ll need to make one stem per clover, in its corresponding color.

Option 1:
Using a crochet hook in the appropriate size for your yarn (in this case, we’re using a 5mm hook with Favorito):

  • ch 8, turn
  • sc into the chain
  • fasten off, leaving a 5-6″ tail

Repeat these steps for each of your clovers.

Have no idea what these letters mean? Check out our Ultimate Crochet Guide for Beginners.

Option 2:
If you don’t know how to crochet and you’re not looking to pick up a new skill quite yet, you can also braid together three pieces of yarn in the corresponding color for each stem. Be sure to still leave a 5-6″ tail at the end of your braid to later attach it to your clover!

Shamrock Clover Pom Pom Threading Together

MAKING THE FOUR LEAF CLOVER

Thread a yarn needle with yarn in the corresponding color for your first clover.

Gently massage the center of a pom pom “leaf” to find the center string — using your thumbnail almost as though your plucking a guitar string can help with this!

Push the yarn needle through the center of one pom pom “leaf” (almost as if the center string of your pom pom is a bead).

Continue threading your yarn needle through the center of all four pom pom “leaves.” Push the pom poms together so that they’re touching.

Bring the two yarn tails together, pulling tight so that there are no gaps between the pom poms. Secure with a double knot.

Shamrock Clover Pom Poms Attach Stem

Thread one of the yarn tails of your stem onto your yarn needle.

Push your yarn needle through the center of the pom pom bundle you just made.

How To Make Shamrock Clover Pom Poms 8

Pull the tail through, and wiggle the stem so that it sits in the center of the two bottom pom pom “leaves.”
Tie the two yarn tails together with a double knot.

If you’re looking to turn your clovers to a garland, use a yarn needle to thread worsted weight yarn or a strong string through the center of the top two pom pom ‘leaves’ of the clover.
