"Tie Dye" pom poms is our term for colorful, haphazard pom poms! There are no rules when making them, but here is a fun & fool-proof formula to get you started!

step one
Begin with one color of yarn. Pin it to your tool using your finger. The yarn will secure in place once you wrap around about two times.

step two
Wrap a solid layer of your first color, making sure to end your wrapping on the inside of your tool nearest your hand.

step three
Set the first color aside either by holding it off to the side or by cutting and tucking the tail under some of the wraps. Start your next layer the same way as Step One, but this time wrap two (or more!) colors at the same time!

step four
Wrap a new layer of your color blend, remembering to wrap back towards the inside of your tool if you plan to set the finished colors aside without cutting, or else you can cut and tuck when you're done wrapping.

step five
Continue on adding layers as you like! Here we switch back to a solid color.

step six
Followed by a mix! If you've been setting aside the yarn colors, you can pull those colors back in as you want to use them! Just make sure your yarns don't get too tangled!

step seven
Continue wrapping layers, switching off between solids, color mixes, color blocks, anything you like!

step eight
Stop wrapping once you've achieved a plump yarn bundle. You can also count your revolutions as you go and stop once you get to your desired revolution count based on your pom pom size. You can find our revolution chart on our How to Make Pom Poms tutorial.
Cut and tuck all yarn strands that are connected to your yarn balls.
